Linocut Patch Making - Intro to Relief Printing on Fabric - SUN, May 19th - 1 to 5pm

Learn the basics of carving blocks, printing on fabric, and making patches (of the sew and no-sew variety), all in one workshop! No previous printmaking experience is needed.

This workshop will cover:

Working with, (and sharpening) carving tools
Generating ideas to carve and print
Transferring images from paper to a printing surface
Inking a carved block for printing
Using a press to print a block on fabric
Hand printing techniques without a press
Transforming fabric into patches, (sew and no-sew) with a variety of fusible interfacing

Everyone in the class will receive a square block to cut. At the end of the class, all participants will leave with their carved block, materials list, a handful of prints on fabric, and two patches made with your print.

No experience is necessary and all materials and tools are provided!

Ages 16+

This is a 4-hour workshop. Please feel free to bring snacks and drinks as there will be a break. I’m located in the Striped Light space. The address is - 107 Bearden Place, Knoxville TN.

No experience in printmaking or design? No problem. My workshops offer a range of themes paired with printmaking processes. All necessary materials are provided for our courses unless stated otherwise in the course description.

If you have paid for a workshop but are unable to attend please email me as soon as possible. Refunds cannot be issued but rescheduling is an option! Your registration balance will remain and can be applied to any future workshop with available spaces. Please do not postpone your attendance more than once. RISO MACHINE RENTAL

Taking a Risograph workshop is a mandatory prerequisite to renting time on our risograph machines. The maximum size of the printable area of our machines is 8.25"x13.75". Maximum paper size ~12"×17". Riso materials are charged per use, $1 per master used, and $0.05 per-page, per-color printed. In addition, there is a flat day rate of $10. Proofing paper is available at no cost.

Riso Rental Hours: THURSDAYS - 4 to 9pm (unless there is a workshop), FRIDAYS - 2 to 6pm, and SATURDAYS - 3 to 7pm

Risograph rental must be booked at least 24 hours in advance of rental time. An online reservation form will be available soon. Until then email sshebaro@gmail.com with rental requests. Be sure to include the date and estimated rental time.
