Linocut Patch Making - Intro to Relief Printing on Fabric - SUN, May 19th - 1 to 5pm
Learn the basics of carving blocks, printing on fabric, and making patches (of the sew and no-sew variety), all in one workshop! No previous printmaking experience is needed.
This workshop will cover:
Working with, (and sharpening) carving tools
Generating ideas to carve and print
Transferring images from paper to a printing surface
Inking a carved block for printing
Using a press to print a block on fabric
Hand printing techniques without a press
Transforming fabric into patches, (sew and no-sew) with a variety of fusible interfacing
Everyone in the class will receive a square block to cut. At the end of the class, all participants will leave with their carved block, materials list, a handful of prints on fabric, and two patches made with your print.
No experience is necessary and all materials and tools are provided!
Ages 16+
This is a 4-hour workshop. Please feel free to bring snacks and drinks as there will be a break. I’m located in the Striped Light space. The address is - 107 Bearden Place, Knoxville TN.
